Abstract
- Two trials of external quality assessment for therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) were performed in 1998. A total of two specimens covering 26 test items were distributed. First specimen was distributed to 77 laboratories with 72 responses (93.5%) and second specimen to 81 laboratories with 68 response (83.9%). Twenty seven test items including acetaminophen, amikacin, amitriptyline, carbamazepine, chloramphenicol, cyclosporine, digoxin, disopyramide, ethosuximide, free phenytoin, gentamicin, lidocaine, lithium, methotrexate, N-acetyl-procainamide, phenobarbital, phenytoin, primidone, procainamide, propranolol, quinidine, salicylate, theophyline, tobramycin, valproic acid, vancomycin and tacrolimus were evaluated. The results of two trials in 1998 were summarized as follows. 1. Tacrolimus quality control assessment were initiated in the year of 1998. 2. The percentage of laboratories able to perform TDM was less than 17% among all the members in the Korean Association of Quality Assurance for Clinical Pathology. 3. The most widely used TDM analyzer was abbott TDx system. 3. The most common test items were digoxin, phenytoin, phenobarbital, carbamazepine, theophylline and valproic acid.
