Abstract

Patients with aplastic anemia (AA) can develop late clonal disorders, such as paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, myelodysplastic syndrome, leukemia or, rarely, solid tumors after immunosuppressive therapy (IST). We report a 29-year-old woman with AA who newly developed breast cancer after IST. She had been treated twice with anti-lymphocyte globulin and anti-thymocyte globulin/cyclosporin A for severe AA, responding with partial response. Four years later, she presented with bloody discharge on right breast mass associated with ipsilateral axillary lymphadenopathy. Biopsy revealed invasive ductal carcinoma. She underwent modified radical mastectomy followed by adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy. To our knowledge, this might be the first report of breast cancer after IST in a patient with AA in Korea.
