Abstract
- Fibrous dysplasia of the orbit is a relatively uncommon, idiopathic benign skeletal disorder, typically enconuntered in adolescents and young children. The dysplastic expansion is usually characterized as a disease becoming quiescent after patients reach puberty. This dyplasia of the head may mainly affect maxillary bone, present with various ocular manifestations, including decreased visual acuity, proptosis, and asymmetric facial appearances. Recently, however, progression of this process has been observed through the all decades and the first symptom may devolop after the adolescence. Therefore fibrous dysplasia of the orbital bones can be a cause of blindness in all ages and differentiation is needed. One case of fibrous dysplasia in a 9-year-old girl has been experienced and is reported. The patient presented chronic binocular decreasing visual acuity, strabismus, proptosis, orbital displacement, and the signs of precocious puberty.
