Abstract

BACKGROUND: As the number of the analytes which are tested with immunologic methods has been increased, the requirement for immunoassay systems with high-capacity and increased efficiency has been also increased. We evaluated the analytical performances of the ACS:Centaur(TM) (Bayer Diagnostics, USA), an automated chemiluminescence immunoassay system using acridium ester for the labeling.
METHODS
Evaluated analytes were 9 items; human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), thyrotropin (TSH), alpha-feto protein (AFP), vitamin B12 (Vit B12), and folate. We used control material for the linearity evaluation, pooled serum for the precision, and random patients' sera for the comparison study with the ACS:180(TM) (Bayer Diagnostics, USA). Analysis speed was defined by measuring the number of test done during 1 hour.
RESULTS
The coefficient of variation of the both within-run total precision were below 9% for all analytes except folate. Good linearity was observed for all analytes. Correlation with the ACS:180(TM) was also good for all analytes except for T4, LH, folate. With 160 reportable results per hour, the analysis speed of the ACS:Centaur(TM) was 1.6 times faster than that of the ACS:180(TM).
CONCLUSIONS
We concluded that the ACS:Centaur(TM) offered excellent performances for routine immunoassay in most clinical settings and was interchangeable with the existing immunoassay system.
