Abstract

Phantom limb sensation is a natural result of amputation. In addition, the incidence of phantom limb pain has been reported in more than 50% of those who experience a phantom limb sensaton. We report a case of a 33-year-old man who exhibited the signs and symptoms of phantom limb pain due to an amputation. Complete but transient pain relief was obtained after an epidural injection of meperidine. The pain score was significantly decreased after the oral administration of gabapentin, and there were no side effects after repeated treatments with an epidural block using bupivacaine and meperidine.
