Abstract

Constipation is a common problem among the elderly. There is low evidence of lifestyle modification for the relief of constipation, but this change in lifestyle does not have negative side effects nor does it require additional costs. In some patients, lifestyle modification alone can relieve and prevent symptoms of constipation. This review focuses on the impact of lifestyle modification such as food, water intake, physical activity, massage, defecation position and abdominal breathing, in order to alleviate constipation symptoms.
