Abstract

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, also called degenerative arthritis in the past. Osteoarthritis mainly affects various joints, including the finger joints and knee joints. As Korea enters an aging society, the severity of osteoarthritis is gradually increasing. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment are important. Up until now, osteoarthritis has been diagnosed based on clinical symptoms and plain radiography. However, recently, the proportion of ultrasound examinations in the diagnosis of osteoarthritis is gradually increasing. This is because ultrasound examinations are very useful for evaluating osteophytes, cartilage damage, and synovitis, which are pathologic findings of osteoarthritis. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to help perform ultrasound examinations in actual clinics based on recently published research data.
