Abstract

Gentamicin and colistin are drug of choice for the treatment of pseudomonas infection, however, the synergistic action of these drugs on the pseudomonas has not been documented clearly. The author has studied the synergistic action with the strains isolated from patients and it has been found that both minimum Inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum lethal concentration (MIC) of gentamicin against test strains have not been substantially influenced by inoculum size but those concentrations of colistin have been affected. Partial synergistic action on both MIC and MIC has been observed among some strains but unequivocal action has not been noted. In a series of combination of low concentration of gentamicin with relatively high concentration of colistin, the synergistic action has not been elevated.
