The clinical experience of Hamstring transference in poliomyelitis Quadriceps paralysis

Abstract

The clinical experience of hamstring transference to the patella performed at Severance Hospital and Crippled Childrens center during the 6 years from Jan. 1959 to Jan. 1965 has been reviewed. In this end result study we have evaluated thirty-two cases in whom transplantation at the knee was done for paralytic quadriceps. The age incidence was 3 to 12 years. The follow-up on these cases ranged from six months to 6 years. The clinical end results were classified as good, fair and poor. The good results were 14(43.7%) and the fair results 8 (25.6%). The extensor power of the knee after transplantation of the hamstring to the patella, was improved to fair or better in 24(74%) Of thirty two knees which had transference seven cases required a long leg brace preoperatively. Four of these seven cases discarded their brace after operation.
