Primary hyperparathyroidism erosion of the sternal ends of the clavicles, a new sign of hyperparathy...

Abstract

A Radiological analysis was made of 13 cases of confirmed acromegaly and gigantism. And observation was madein skeleton and soft tissue of patients at Yonsei university from 1968 to 1973. The result was following as ; 1. main clinical symptoms were headache (8/13) and visual disturbances (5/13) in acromegaly and gigantism. 2. Characteristic radiologic findings were analyzed in 13 cases. a. Plain skull show marked thickening of skullvault, prominent frontal bossing, thickening of external occipital protuberance, basal kyphosis increment anddecreased facial angle. b. Facial bone show lower positioning of the symphysis of mandibule and hyoid bone, curvedhard palate, protrusion of tongue and flaring of the teeth. c. Acroegalic measurement of vertebra show increasedheight of body, interpedicular distance and marginal degenerative changes of vertebra. d. Increased size of handlength, P-M joint spaces of hand, increased tuft width and sesamoid index were shown. e. Marked thickening of heelpad are also demonstrated. Details of analysis disclosed overlapping of signs of each indivisualized skeleton andsoft tissue.
