Abstract

Spontaneous rupture of an adrenal pheochromocytoma is extremely rare, but it can be lethal because of dramatic change in the circulation. They usually present with acute abdominal symptoms accompanied by hypotension and sometimes shock but others have high blood pressure and peripheral vasoconstriction. The mortality of these patients exceeds 50% compared with that of the diagnosed patients approaches 0% with pre-operative and intra-operative control. We report a case of pheochromocytoma which ruptured spontaneously and hemorrhaged massively into the retroperitoneum.
