Hepatocellular Carcinoma Extending to the Inferior Vena Cava and Right Atrium-A Case Report of 4 Years Survival after Repeated Transcatheter Arterial Chemoembolization Therapy -

Abstract

Tumor thrombus of hepatocellular carcinoma in the inferior vena cava and right atrium is rarely encountered. According to the literature, its prognosis is poor in spite of aggressive treatment. A 60-year-old man showed hepatocellular carcinoma measuring 9*8*7 cm in the right hepatic lobe with tumor thrombus within the hepatic vein, IVC, and right atrium. We performed transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TAE) repeatedly. Seven months later, the hepatic mass decreased in size and vascular staining of the tumor thrombus in the IVC and right atrium disappeared. We report a case who had been alive for 4 years after 12 times of TAE with review of the literatures.
