Abstract

Acute pancreatitis is a disorder of many causes. Bile duct stones and alcohol abuses account for 80% of acute pancreatitis. It is also caused by surgery, trauma, metabolic abnormalities, drugs, vascular abnormalities, and infections. Among various infections, hepatitis A infection causes acute pancreatitis very rarely. Recently, we experienced a case of acute pancreatitis caused by acute hepatitis A infection. The patient was a 31-year-old woman who presented with abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. Laboratory findings showed acute hepatitis and acute pancreatitis. On serologic test, IgM antibodies to HAV were detected. Abdominal ultrasound, computed tomography and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreaticography showed normal findings. The patient was completely recovered with conservative treatment. We report the case with a review of literature.
