Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpur and Neutropenia Associatedwith Ulcerative Colitis

Abstract

Although ulcerative colitis is associated with variable extraintestinal manifestations such as periphera arthropathy, it is not well known that immune thrombocytopenic purpura may complicate ulcerative colitis. We report two adult patients with ulcerative colitis and immune thrombocytopenic purpura One patient was successfully managed by corticosteroid. However, the other patient eventually under went splenectomy and total proctocolectomy to treat uncontrolled severe symptomatic thrombocyto penia and neutropenia. After operation thrombocytopenia and neutropenia was normalized.
