Abstract

This is the report of sixth-year trial of external quality assessment for immunoassay in Korea. We attempted two trials of external quality assessments in 2000. A total of 8 specimens were distributed-5 specimens in first trial, 3 specimens in second trial-with a response of 243 laboratories (75.2%) and 235 laboratories (92.5%), respectively. We used home-made pooled sera as the control material for all the immunoassays. The results are summarized as follows. 1. Laboratories participating in external quality control program of immunoassay increased in its number from 236 to 243 laboratories in first trial, but decreased to 235 laboaratories in second trial compared to previous years. 2. Chemiluminescence analyser became most widely used analyzer for immunoassay tests in most of test items. 3. Among member laboratories using same type of analysers showed large coefficient of variations in some of test items. We recommend that laboratories should use dilutional method for high value samples, but some may failed resulting large C.V. in some test items. 5. 90% of member laboratories are using automated analysers such as nephelometer or turbidimeter instead of RID plates (manual methods) for fast and accurate result reports in analysis of seum immunoglobulin (Ig G, A, M, C3, C4).
