Abstract

We report a case of sellar tuberculoma without extracranial tuberculosis, mimicking pituitary adenoma. The clinical presentation and findings of magnetic resonance image were very similar to pituitary adenoma. Subtotal excision of the lesion was achieved via a transsphenoidal route. The dura mater was markedly thickened and the tumor was hard and avascular. A diagnosis of tuberculoma was made on the basis of histologic studies. However, there was no evidence of tuberculosis in smear for acid-fast bacilli and polymerase chain reaction. Nine months after the anti-tuberculous medication, computed tomography revealed no mass in the sellar region.
