Epizootiological and Bacteriological Studies of Bovine Tuberculosis in Korea -(Report 4) A Study on the Atypical Mycobacteria Isolated from Native Korean Cattle-

Abstract

This study was conducted in order to investigate on the bovine tuberculosis and other mycobacteriosis, if and, of native Korean cattle which has never been made before in the field of public health and veterinary medicine. As a result of th is study, the following conculusions were made : (1) Various species of mycobacteria were isolated from 25(16. 7%) out of 160 tracheobronchial lymphnodes of native Korean Cattle slaughtered. (2) Twenty-five isolates were grouped according to Run yon’ s schema; one strai n or 4. 0 % was photochromogen, three or 12. 0% were scotochromogens, sixteen or 64.0% were nonphotochromogens and five or 20. 0% were rapid growers. One Strain of photochromogen was identified as Mycobacterium marinum. One strain of scotochromogens was identified as M . scrofulaceum and two as M. gordonae laceum and two as M . gordonae. Sixteen strai ns of nonphotochrom ogens were sub-grou ped into thirteen strains of Battey-avium and three strain s of M. terrae complex. Two st ra ins of rapid growere identified as M. smegmatis, two as M.diernhoferi and one as M.fortuitum.
