Abstract

1. Currently, arthrography of the knee which is one of the diagnostic methods for derangement of knee seems not to be popular in our country. We have performed the arthrography and operation to the patient of the derangement of knee joint during the period from Jan. 1973 to July, 1973 at Busan National University hospitals. Ten cases among them in which operative findings compared to the arthrographie findings were analyzed clinically and results obtained were as follows. 1) Ten cases included two lateral discoid meniscus, three tears of lateral collateral ligament with capsular ruptures, four tears of the lateral meniscus, one tear of the posterior cruciate ligament. 2) In two lateral discoid meniscus, diffuse filling defect with unclear inner edge was seen on arthrogram. 3) In three tears of lateral collateral ligaments with capsular ruptures, arthrography showed the air and positive contrast media extravasated into the pericapsular region and separation of the ruptured edges. 4) In four tears of lateral menisci, arthrography showed the presence of contrast media within the wedge shaped filling defect, gas and contrast media escaped from the synovial space into the soft tissue, and loss of normal radiolucency of popliteus tendon sheath. 5) One tear of the posterior cruciate ligament found at operation was not demonstrated by arthrography. 6) We conclude that arthrography is helpful diagnosing the derangement of the knee except that with tear of posterior cruciate ligament.
