Abstract

Epstein Barr virus (EBV)-associated vesicular eruptions on the face have been referred to as hydroa vacciniforme or hydroa vacciniforme-like eruptions. It is well recognized that these eruptions develop as a manifestation of T/natural killer-cell lymphoproliferative disorders associated with EBV infection. Although there is strong evidence for the existence of a pathogenic relationship between these eruptions and ultraviolet light exposure, every patient with these eruptions does not show photosensitivity. Over the last 20 years, the author has encountered approximately 30 patients presenting with EBV-associated vesicular eruptions of the face. This review describes the author's clinical experience of managing EBV-associated vesicular eruptions of the face.
