Computed tomographic and ultrasound findings of gallbladder carcinoma
Abstract
- The authors analyzed CT and ultrasonographic findings of 36 cases of gallbladder carcinoma from May 1983 toJune 1988. The results were as follows: 1. Of 36 cases, 11 cases were male and 25 cases were female, with a meanage of 63 years(range 31-87 years). 2. A mass filling the gallbladder, the most common finding, was seen in 16cases (44.4%), and irregular thickening of the gallbladder wall in 8 cases (22.2%), fungating mass in thegallbladder in 5 cases (13.9%) and mixed type, irregular thickening of the gallbladder wall and intraluminalfungating mass, in 7 cases (19.4%). 3. Gallbladder stone was accompained in 20 cases (55.5%) and bile ductdilatation was present in 17 cases (47.2%). 4. Metastasis to the other organs were as follows: lymphnode in 17cases, liver in 22 cases, peritoneum in 13 cases, colon in 2 cases and intraheptic bile duct in one case. 5.Gallbladder carcinoma were incorrectly diagnosed in 7 patients: 2 cases of acute cholecystitis, one of polyp, oneof empyema and 3 cases in which no mass was detected in gallbladder. 6. Ultrasound and CT were to be the method ofchoice in the evaluation of the gallbladder carcinoma, especially ultrasound is very promising in detection ofearly and curable gallbladder carcinoma.
