Two Cases of Atopic Dermatitis Improved by Combination Treatment of Allergen-Specific Immunotherapy and Histamine-Immunoglobulin Complex

Abstract

The effect of allergen-specific immunotherapy on atopic dermatitis is still controversial, and allergen-specific immunotherapy is not recommended as a standard treatment in current international guidelines. We report that two house dust mite-sensitive patients with atopic dermatitis had clinically improved by combination treatment of allergen-specific immunotherapy and histamine-immunoglobulin complex. The commercially available house dust mite extract and histamine-immunoglobulin complex were simultaneously injected with intervals according to the guidelines of manufacturers. Marked clinical improvement in atopic dermatitis was observed in two patients after 2 or 3 months of the treatment and 80% or 90% of eczematous skin lesions was normalized after 6 months of the treatment. In one patient, symptoms of allergic rhinitis were also markedly improved.
