Abstract

BACKGROUND: This study was aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Hulla chair in relief of low back pain and accompanying limited range of motion.
METHODS
We randomly divided forty patients suffering from low back pain into two groups. Twenty patients were treated with Hulla chair, diathermy and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. The others are treated by hot pack, diathermy and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. Visual analogue scale, pain rating score, range of motion of low back were used as a tool for evaluation and the difference from before-treated and after-treated mean score was compared.
RESULTS
Visual analogue scale and pain rating score in Hulla chair group and control group had statistically significant decrement of score from end of treatment, and there are further significant decrement in the Hulla chair group. The range of motion in two groups was not improved on the average.
CONCLUSION
We concluded that Hulla chair showed beneficial effect on low back pain without adverse effects.
