Abstract

Functional dyspepsia is a common disorder, but the etiology is not certain. The association between Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) and functional dyspepsia still remains controversial. Recent meta-analysis showed H. pylori eradication gives small but significant and cost-effective effect in functional dyspepsia. However, there have been also conflicting results. The European Helicobacter Study Group (EHSG) recommended H. pylori eradication treatment in functional dyspepsia with high level of scientific evidences. In Korea, there is not enough clinical data about the treatment of H. pylori in functional dyspepsia. Large scale nationwide randomized controlled trial for the treatment of H. pylori infection in functional dyspepsia is undergoing in Korea. So after this, it will be necessary to revise the guideline for the treatment of H. pylori.
