A Statistical Study of Pediatric Dermatoses During Last 5 years (1990-1994)

Abstract

The total number of 3,922 of outpatients visiting our Department of Dermatology of Chonnam University Hospital from 1990 to 1994 aging under 15-year-old was analysed on clinical aspects statistically. The study results were summarized as followed:
1. The number of childhood patients aging under 15-year-old was 3,922 from 21,546 total number of new outpatients, summing up 18.2% of total number. 2. The order of frequent dermatoses group in incidence was as followed; eczema group, viral infection group, erythema-urticaria-drug eruption group, pigmentary disorder group, tumors of the dermis and subcutaneous fat group, fungal infection group and bacterial infection group. 3. The order of frequent dermatoses in incidence diagnosed was as followed; atopic dermatitis, vitiligo, verruca, urticaria, fungal infection, hemagioma, molluscum contagiosum, impetigo, eczematous dermatitis, drug eruption. 4. The age group showing the highest incidence was between 4 and 6 years old, amounting to 19.9% of total outpatients. The age distribution shows that atopic dermatitis, eczematous dermatitis, impetigo, molluscum contagiosum, urticaria were frequent in 4-6 years old; verruca was frequent in 10-12 years old: fungal infection, hemangioma were frequent in 0-1 years old; drug eruption, vitiligo were frequent in 13 to 15 years old.
5. The peak incidence occured in August, while the lowest incidence occured in December. The seasonal distribution showed that vitiligo, verruca, urticaria, fungal infection, impetigo and drug eruption were frequent in summer; hemagioma was frequent in winter; atopic dermatitis was frequent in winter and fall; molluscum contagiosum and eczematous were frequent in spring and summer.
