Abstract

The interhemispheric subdural hematoma (ISH) is a relatively uncommon complication of head trauma. Although a head injury is often considered as the primary cause of ISH, possible predisposing factors such as coagulopathies, alcohol abuse or anticoagulant therapy can also be considerded. When its volume becomes sufficiently large, specific neurological abnormalities such as signs of the falx syndrome can be noticed. The management options range from craniotomy and evacuation of hematoma to conservative management. Early surgical treatment is necessary in patients with progressive neurological deterioration. The authors present a case of traumatic ISH which was managed by surgical evacuation.
