A Case of Biliary Cystadenocarcinoma
Abstract
-
Biliary cystadenocarcinomas are rare biliary ductal neoplasms that usually arise in the liver and less frequently occur in the extrahepatic biliary ducts. These neoplasms are associated with few symptoms and the usual normal laboratory data, so these neoplasms are found incidentally. The ultrasonogram, abdominal CT scan, angiography, and aspiration cytology are valuable diagnostic methods. Regardless of the diagnostic modalities, cystadenomas and cystadenocarcinomas cannot be differentiated macroscopically, thus they are confirmed icroscopically. Complete surgical resection of the cystadenoma is warrented to avoid a malignant change of this neoplasm because biliary cystadenocarcinoma is believed to arise from benign cystadenoma. In this paper we report a case of biliary cystadenocarcinoma confirmed by the operation microscopically and carefully reviewed literature previously presented.
