Abstract

Retrospective analysis of prognostic factors in transitional cell carcinoma of the upper urinary tract were assessed with histopathological examination in a series of 36 patients operated upon between 1980 and 1989. Prognostic factors such as stage (TNM). grade (Ash I.II.III.IV). multiplicity. age. sex. urine cytology. synchronous and metachronous bladder tumor were tested. The actual 5 years survival rate was 40%. 5 years survival rate of low (Ta. T1. T2) and high stage (T3 T4) tumor were 55% and 15%. and low grade( I.II) and high grade (III.IV) were 55% and 20%. A high correlation was evident between stage and grade. The most significant prognostic factors were stage and grade in univariate test. While influential factor was tumor stage only in Cox`s proportional hazard model.
