Biliary Tract Obstruction and Portal Hypertension due to Tuberculous Lymphadenitis
Abstract
-
Enlargement of adjacent lymph nodes due to malignant tumors or lymphoma can occasionally ob struct the biliary duct, but obstructive jaundice and portal hypertension produced by periportal tuber culous lymphadenitis are quite rare. Its diagnosis is difficult because symptoms and signs are non specific and clinical tests are not conclusive. Additionally, the lesion mimic a malignancy clinically and radiologically. However, it is important to differentiate it from malignancy. We describe a patien who presented with jaundice and portal hypertension caused by biliary obstruction due to tuberculous lymphadenitis involving distal portion of the common bile duct.
