Abstract

The abscess of the tongue is extremely rare. Abscess is believed to be caused by commensal organisms as two types of anaerobes are found to be associated with periodontal infection and oral streptococcus. Several imaging techniques can be used for the diagnosis of the tongue abscess, and a careful history is also essential in establishing the diagnosis. The treatment of this abscess is incision, drainage and use proper antimicrobial agents. We report a case of a tongue abscess which was treated by a combination antimicrobial therapy and needle aspiration. We discuss the results of differential diagnosis and management.
