Clomipramine in the Treatment of Premature Ejaculation

Abstract

We evaluated clomipramine in a single dose of 50mg/day before sleep for 8 weeks as a treatment for premature ejaculation. All the patients were married, and 70% had primary premature ejaculation. The average estimated time to ejaculation after vaginal penetration increased from 0.8 minutes before treatment to 6.9 minutes at the 4th week and 8.2 minutes at the 8th week. The following side effects were reported by the patients: transient drowsiness in 17 (68%), vertigo in 13 (52%), dry mouth in 7 (28%), and mild nausea in 7 (28%). These findings suggest that low-dose clomipramine may useful in the treatment of premature ejaculation.
