Abstract

This report deals with clinical effects of Cefamezin on the treatment of 30 cases of urinary infection and other infections associated with uremic coma. Totaling 8 cases of the patients showed uremic state. Cefamezin was given 0.5~2.0/d intravenously or intramuscularly for 3~51 days according to the severity of infection. Observations were done on changes of clinical symptoms and urinalysis as well as on influences on the hematology and nitrogen level of blood including NPN. UN, & Creatinine before and after the treatment. The results are as follows. 1. Cefamezin is effective in most cases of urinary infections and has no significant side reactions even in cases with uremia. 2. Cefamezin has no hazardous effect on hemato1ogy (RBC, Hb, and WBC) and nitrogenous substances (NPN, UN, and Creatinine) in blood. 3. Cefamezin is effective in pneumonia. a complication of uremia. From the above, Cefamezin is thought to be a effective therapeutic armamentarium with reasonable safety even in cases with renal failure in combating urinary infections.
