Abstract

Asthma is a serious health problem throughout the world with high prevalence and increased socioeconomic burden. So in order to have a better understanding and medication for this illness, many scientific advances have been made. To specify, Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) and National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP) have played a leading role in disseminating information about the care for patients based on a process of continuous review of published scientific investigations. For these outstanding accomplishments, GINA and NAEPP guidelines are now being widely adopted, translated and reproduced, forming the basis for many national guidelines throughout the world. These guidelines recommend a change in approach to asthma management with asthma control, rather than asthma severity, being the focus of treatment decisions. Most importantly, these provide stepwise drug therapy of asthma based on the level of control. This session will mainly focus on updated stepwise drug therapy.
