SuperCross™ Microcatheter Is an Excellent Solution for PCI With Complex and Tortuous Coronary Anatomy

Abstract

Background
SuperCross™ microcatheter (SCM) is a single lumen microcatheter designed to enable access, crossing, and exchange of guidewires at the lesions located in bifurcations, side branches, distal vessels, as well as discrete and tortuous anatomies of the coronary and peripheral arterial system for highly complex interventional procedures and chronic total occlusion (CTO).
Methods
We enrolled 16 patients in our single center who were used SCM during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with tortuous coronary anatomy as well as all patients were used angled tip SCM. We calculated the success rate of wire delivery according to the degree of angulation of the lesion and the use of the guidewire.
Results
Among 16 patients used SCM during PCI, the success rate was 93.8%, only one case with left main bifurcation lesion failed to use SCM to pass the lesion. The anatomical indication showed 37.5% lesions with severe angulation (≥ 90°), as well as there had 3 bifurcation or multiple bifurcation cases and 2 CTO cases. The type of the guide wire that successfully passed the lesion with this catheter. The frequency of guidewire usage from high to low was SUOH® 03 (25%), Fielder® XT-R (25%), Sion® (18.8%), and Runthrough® NS (12.5%). In addition, there was one case of CTO using Conquest 9 in a curved lesion. An extension guidewire was used to withdraw the SCM in most cases.
Conclusions
In PCI with tortuous coronary anatomy, SCM can improve the success rate of guide wire delivery.
