Abstract

A plexiform schwannoma is a subtype of schwannoma characterized by a multinodular and plexiform pattern with a superficial occurrence, mainly under the skin or subcutaneous tissue. It is rarely located deep or occurs in the major peripheral nerves. In this case, it is difficult to distinguish a plexiform schwannoma from a malignant peripheral schwannoma, so an excisional biopsy is required. On the other hand, there are no reports on the long-term follow-up of surgical treatment performed on major peripheral nerves. The authors report the confirmation of a plexiform schwannoma on the right ulnar nerve in a 64-year-old male patient by excisional biopsy and long-term observations for seven years.
