Abstract

Objective
In Korea, where the shortage and imbalance in the number of obstetricians and gynecologists are serious, it is an essential task to check the job satisfaction of obstetricians and gynecologists and related factors. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze job satisfaction and related factors by comparing obstetricians and gynecologists with other specialists among Korean doctors.
Methods
A secondary analysis was conducted on the questionnaire data of the 2016 National Physician Survey, and among them, obstetricians and gynecologists and other doctors were compared and analyzed. The demographic characteristics, lifestyle, work-related factors, and work-related satisfaction of the target group identified through the questionnaire were compared between obstetricians and gynecologists and non-obstetricians and gynecologists.
Results
Four hundred and two obstetricians and gynecologists and 6,933 non-obstetricians and gynecologists were compared and analyzed, excluding doctors in training, doctors who are not in the field, or doctors whose boundaries are unclear. Obstetricians and gynecologists had more holiday work hours, a small number of total days off, and a lot of outpatient, hospitalized, and surgery-related treatment days. Nevertheless, satisfaction with the provision of medical services was high, and the level of stress perception was low, and satisfaction with professional autonomy, satisfaction with the level of medical resources, and satisfaction with the time required for work other than medical treatment were high. However, there was no difference between job satisfaction and life satisfaction.
Conclusion
Obstetricians and gynecologists appear to have higher satisfaction with their medical services and less stress, and their job satisfaction and life satisfaction seem to be similar.
