The comparison of Tuberculin positive rate between household Members with and without Tuberculosis patients

Abstract

The purpose of the study is not only for the actual TB control program of the area but also to study an economic TB case screening method in general. Tuberculin test was carried out to the children below 16 years of age of both sexes in the area, al1 children were tested with 1TU, PPD by Mantoux test from Jan 12, 1969 to Jan 18, 1969. Besides mineature chest X-ray were taken to the populatioll regardless of age from Jan, 10, 1970 to Jan, 18, 1970. The results obtained from the survey are as follows. 1) Among 1338 children age of 0-15, 1140 were tuberculin tested and read. 2) Among 1140 children, 180 were positive reactors thus positive rate was 15. 8%. Male was higher(16.5%) than female (14.9%), observing by age groups, the positive rate was 0% in 0-1 year group, 33.9% in 14-15 years, the rate was increascd by age. 3) Among 3207 total population, 768 were X-rayed. Response rate was 23.9%. 4) Among 768 persons 5 were diagnosed as active tuberculosis. 5) The tuterculin positive rate was 37. 9% to household members with TB patients 16. 6% to without TB patient. The average in family unit, 30% to household members with TB patient, 12% to without TB patients.
