Abstract
- Aspiration pneumonia is common problem in patients with dysphagia. Many articles reported effective oral hygiene care reduced occurrence of aspiration pneumonia via oral clearance of pathogenic oropharyngeal colonization.
Based on the current research findings and guidelines, normal oral cavity, common oral disease, general oral hygiene care and special oral care for patients with cognitive impairment were described. Effective oral hygiene care will be helpful for prevention for aspiration pneumonia in patients with dysphagia. To provide effective oral hygiene care for dysphagia patients, education program for nursing staffs would be essential.
