Spine Osteotomy for Severe Kyphosis: Report of a Case

Abstract

Marie Striimpell arthritis is characterized by ossification of the ligaments of the spine and the larger joints leading to ankylosis and kyphotic deformity. Smith Petersen introduced the spine ostetomy for correction of severe rigid spinal kyphosis by one stage operation in 1945 and La Chapelle reported two stage operation in 1946. The object of spinal ostcotomy is to provide a compensatory lumbar lordosis for the rigid tharacic or cervico-thoracic kyphosis. This report is to present an experience of a case of the spine osteotomy for the correction of severe kyphosis caused by Marie Striimpell arthritis.
