Application of ultrasound in cranial lesions (1)

Abstract

Use of US to evaluate the brain lesions for the first time was in 1956 by Leksell, who tried to detect themidline of brain with A-mode. After that B-mode was used in in 1970's and reported US findings of variable brainlesions in early 1980's in foreign countries, but not widely used in ours. Authors analysed US findings of 54cases(45 who performed through anterior fontanelle and temporoparietal thin bone and 9 through the surgical bonedefect) and compared with CT image to reconfirm the efficacy of US. We could conclude that using US, as initialscreening and follow up method in neonate, infant and early childhood under 15 months and as a follows up methodin post operative patient, was not inferior to CT and was more effective in cases of abscess and cystic lesions.
