Abstract

A father is as important as a mother in mental development of a child. A father helps his child get into the world from being embedded into his mother. A father also gives his child a chance to modify harsh inner objects through playing, not competitions. However, some fathers have severe narcissism and castration anxiety to play this role. "˜Guardians of Galaxy Vol. 2' by James Gunn is a film about two fathers. One father is narcissistic and unable to lose; the other father is not so narcissistic and is able to lose. In the end, one father is killed by his own child and the other father just disappears by himself. It seems to symbolically show what is happening in the child's inner world. A child's father sometimes does, but sometimes does not agree to losing. The father of a child sometimes disappears by himself, but sometimes he disappears only after being killed by his child. When a father disappears, he leaves the child a legacy, which is the autonomy of the child and the courage to get into the world. The waning of his father begins from the oedipal phase until when father actually disappears, i.e. he is deceased in an external reality. Therefore, we could say a child acquires their knowledge about the world through his mother, but he gets the courage to go to the world through his father.
