An Analysis on Initial 2084 Cases of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Abstract

Since a 2.0 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) unit has been installed at Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Seoul National University Hospital in May 1988, a total of 2084 MRI examinations were performed as of end of 1988. 1. Out of 2084 MRI examination, only 456 (25%) were normal and pediatric patients under 15 years of age were 350 (17%). 2. Anatomic regions examined were brain (55%), spine (24%), extremities (7%), abdomen and pelvis (7%), cardiovascular (4%), head and neck (2%) and chest (1%) in order. 3. In 8 months, average throughput was 13 to 15 examinations per day and 260 per month. 4. With our initial experiences, we believe MRI to be more effective and accurate in diagnosis and evaluation of various disease in general, and although MRI is complementary with CT presently, it will gradually be replacing CT and vasious exemations in great extent in near future.
