Time requirement for barium reduction in intussusception

Abstract
- During the period between January 1985 and Dec.1987, barium reduction was performed in 146 cases ofintussusception who were admitted to Kwangju Christian Hospital. The results were as follows: 1. Success rate tothe symptom duration is relatively constant. 2. The success rate in infants with severe dehydration was 50% but itwas gradually increased in infants with moderate dehydration and in infants with mild dehydration, 83.3% and 100%respectively. 3. The success rate of 12 cases in severely dehydrated infants with positive dissection sign was16.7%. 4. The success rate of 15 cases in moderately dehydrated infants with positive dissection sign was 66.7%.5. The average time requirement for barium reduction was 58.3 minutes. No serious complications were noted duringbarium reduction, except mild vomitings. 6. With above results, it is desirable that barium reduction should beperformed according to the patient's physical status and radiologic findings.
