Post tetanic thoracic vertebral change

Abstract

A case report of post tetanic vertebra disclosed multiple thoracic vertebral changes of compressed fracture involving T4, T5, T6, and T7 with partial collapse of T3, T8, and T9. The mechanism of fracture were reviewed. In ordinary compressed fracture produced by acute flexion however post tetanic fracture can be produced by following opisthotonus. Several authors believed to due to both extensor and flexor muscle groups of violent tetanic convultion with acute force to the weakest vertebra of T5 of T6 area.
