Diagnostic value of orbitography

Abstract

Positive contrast orbitography was performed on 11 cases of suspicious orbital tumor during recent 2 years. The results are summerized as follows. 1. There was neither technical failure nor pseudo-positive in all of 11orbitographies. Leakages of contrast media into peripheral space were found in 2 cases, not inducing difficultiesin diagnosis of orbital tumor. 2. The sizes and extents of orbital tumors were confirmed after operation in 9 outof the positive 10 cases. 3. Shadows of optic nerve were identified in 7 cases, in 5 of which displacement wasnoted. 4. Differentiation between benign and malignant tumor was not clear. 5. As sequelae, mild degree of orbitaltension, edema of conjunctiva and eyelids and conjunctival hyperemia were met but those were subsided within 3 hrsafter injection of contrast material. 6. In conclusion, orbitography was sufficiently valuable and safe indiagnosis of orbital tumors visualizing exact locations and extents.
