Abstract

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic painful and disabling disease, and its diagnosis is very difficult. Many diagnostic criteria have been suggested. However, their diagnostic power has been criticized due to their low specificity and sensitivity. The international Association for the Study of Pain has suggested new diagnostic criteria, which although have a high sensitivity, their specificity are still too low. Therefore; herein, modified diagnostic criteria for CRPS-I will be introduced for improving the diagnostic specificity. In association with the diagnostic criteria, various etiologies and their possible mechanisms, signs and symptoms, and various treatment modalities have been discussed.
