New design of the styrofoam scooping device to make a compensating filter

Abstract

The irradiation of certain tumors presents a special problem in dose planning when the skin surface isirregular, then the usual treatmenet plan and isodose curve do not result in homogeneous irradiation of thetumour. And then the authors designed a new styrofoam scooping device to make a styrofoam block including aminified wax compensators which will correct for surface irregularities, without sacrificing the skin sparing. Thestyrofoam block must be cut in the exact geometrical relations used for patient treatment. The procedure is easy,accurate, and reproduciable and provides compensating which is individualized for each patients.
