Radiographic observation for tuberculous spondylitis in pediatric group

Abstract

Radiologic tuberculous spondylitis from 7 months old to 16 years old during past 6 years from the 1970 through1975, was studied and analysed. 1. The youngest one was 7 months old male infant. He had active tuberculousspondylitis in thoracolumbar spines. 2. The ratio of male to female was 1.1:1 3. The most common site of involvedvertebrae was thoracic spine 36%, the next were lumbar 35% , and thoracolumbar 12%. 4. The most commonroentgenographic findings were intervertebral space narrowing 84%, kyphosis (75%), cold abscess (65%), andcollapse (60%) 5. The incidence of lytic type is 65%, mixed type 24%, and sclerotic type 11%. 6. The incidence ofcentral type, wedging of vertebral body is 61%, undetermined 15%, intervertebral type 13%, anterior type 11%. 7.The greatest number of affected area was 7. The ost common number of involved vertebra was two areas 46%, nextwere more than three areas 42%, and one area 12%.
