A Case of Focal Nodular Hyperplasia of the Liver Treated with Hepatic Artery Embolization
Abstract
-
Focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) of the liver is a rare benign lesion which occurs predominantly in women during their reproductive years. Most of the cases have been found incidentally. The preferred management is conservative, and excision is reserved for large, symptomatic, and complicated lesion. Hepatic artery embolization therapy may be a safe and effective alternative to surgery, because it needs no intratumoral arteriovenous shunting or parasitic blood supply. We experienced a case of symptomatic focal nodular hyperplasia in 21-year-old female, and performed hepatic artery embolization. After seven months, the tumor has reduced greatly.
