A Case of Allergic Contact Dermatitis to Transdermal Estradiol System

Abstract

Transdermal delivery of drugs is becoming popular. Several cases of allergic contact dermatitis due to transdermal estradiol therapeutic system have been reported. A 53-year-old female patient was presented with pruritc erythematous papule and swelling on her lower abdomen. She applied transdermal estrogen patches on the lesional site for replacement therapy after oophorectomy. Patch test was performed with each component of transdermal estradiol therapeutic system. She was found to have a positive reaction to 1,2,4% 17beta-estradiol, but not to any other component.
