Abstract
- Juvenile dermatomyositis differs from the adult form of dermatomyositis by the presence of necrotizing vasculitis of the small blood vessels, which can affect the gastrointestinal tract, retina, myocardium and peripheral nerve, in addition to the skin and muscle. Furthermore, gastrointestinal perforation, retinal hemorrhages and myocarditis in children may cause an acute morbidity or long-term disability. Although there have been many reports of juvenile dermatomyositis in Korea, cases accompanied with retinopathy and gastrointestinal bleeding have not been reported. Here in, we present a case of juvenile dermatomyositis with hemorrhagic retinal vasculitis and multiple bleeding of the small intestines.
